by Nancy Popp, ACSM, AFAA, LMT

Most diets work! You may be one of the millions of people who have lost weight on any number of popular diets, only to put it all back on again, time after time. As you read this right now, you may be considering trying a new diet, or diet drugs, to lose weight again. Please take our advice--don't! Even when people say, "I just can't lose weight," further probing reveals that they have indeed lost weight--many times! We have interviewed thousands of people who have lost thousands of pounds on various popular diets. Most diet programs work. The stories and pictures are impressive. Some of them could bring tears to your eyes.

Sure, you can lose weight. Just choose your favorite new diet and lose the weight. It's just that simple. If all you are concerned about is losing weight, most diets or diet drugs will work. However, the problem isn't losing weight. The problem is gaining weight. North Americans have been dieting for the past 40 years, and we are fatter now than we have ever been! Suppose you woke up one morning and your skin was green. Would you think: "How can I get rid of this ugly green? I'd better cover my body with make-up so it doesn't show." Probably not. Most likely, you would be concerned about what was going on inside your body to cause your skin to turn green. Yet, when most people notice they are gaining weight, they immediately think they need to try another diet to get rid of the fat. Most people never stop to consider what is causing their bodies to store excess fat in the first place.

There are complex biochemical, physiological, and psychological forces that cause our bodies to store excess body fat. The latest discoveries in biochemistry, psychology, and exercise science shows there are ways for most people to lose excess body fat. And yes, contrary to popular belief, most everyone can be lean forever.

The transformation alters your body's biochemical and physiological responses and changes your psychological outlook. There are 7 keys to transforming your body from a fat-storing machine to a lean, fat-burning machine. The 7 keys are (1) low-glycemic index foods; (2) proper balance of macronutrients; (3) low-acid foods; (4) micronutrients; (5) physical activity; (6) winning attitude; and (7) team support.
